I’m fuming so I had to put ‘pen to paper’.
An MBE for this incredible lady shines a shameful light on the mockery that is today’s Honours System. David Cameron’s hairdresser was ‘awarded’ an MBE for ‘services to hairdressing’! Shami Chakrabarti was ‘awarded’ a Peerage (by Jeremy Corbyn of all people!!) for, well, nothing, Lynton Crosby was ‘awarded’ a Knighthood for masterminding the Conservative Party victory in the 2015 UK General Election, MP’s are ‘awarded’ Knighthoods for just doing their jobs (allegedly doing their jobs!) and Vera Schaufeld is awarded a ‘mere’ MBE for the phenomenal work she has done! It makes my blood boil!
Of course, it’s a great honour to be awarded an MBE but putting it in the context of who gets what gong for what service(s), it’s an insult!
I think that, functioning fairly, free of politics, favours and other forms of inappropriate behaviour, the British Honours System is terrific but in its current form, how it functions today, it is hideous and sickening.
