The electricity ‘industry’ in this country is an integrated State-owned monopoly, no competition, no market forces – State officials and those running the company benefit, we, the punters, get screwed. That’s all there is to it.
It’s an archaic, anachronistic set-up, an embarrassment to a country which claims to be progressive, modern, cutting edge economy. ‘Progressive, modern, cutting edge economy’?%$#@! – the last two nights, I felt like I was in The Waltons during The Great Depression!
This is unacceptable and, as our PM, Netanyahu must take responsibility (and I sincerely hope that Bennett was working like the clappers to alleviate the problem!).
There can only be one reason for this state of affairs – people who can make a difference are lining their pockets. It’s my hunch that everything that is wrong with the electricity ‘industry’ in this country is a microcosm of so much that is wrong with ‘The Establishment’ and the commercial/business infrastructure here. Too much money, power and control in too few hands, too much protection for those who have that control, too many people lining their own pockets – it stinks – the smell is corruption and the only people choking are us, the poor punters at the bottom of the food chain.
Israel, a developed, fully-functioning, fair and equitable, market economy? Nope! We need change and that change will only come when the man at the top, the man who must accept responsibility, the man who is happy to take the credit and applause and must also take the criticism, when that man, Netanyahu, has gone.
