I’m sitting here, aghast, though I don’t know why – I read this article (click on link below this paragraph) and the comments that followed. I know that the tentacles of the fake news octopus are global in reach and that they squirt the poison of antisemitism liberally but I never cease to be shocked when I see it.

The article focuses on Iran’s meddling in the Middle East (remember, Iran is in Asia, not the Middle East), on its (proxy) army, Hezbollah, on Iran’s/Hezbollah’s plans in relation to Israel and Iran’s pursuance of its dream to wipe Israel off the map.
Before I continue, I must stress that my disdain is for the Iranian leadership, NOT for the Iranian people whose suffering in the iron grip of the evil top brass will, hopefully, be at an end sooner rather than later!
Reading the comments on/following the article, it seems clear that Israel, its leaders, on the right and left, from 1948 to today, Israelis – all of us, regardless of our politics – Jews, everyone and everything with any connection, directly or indirectly, with Israel is demonised, despised, hated and reviled.
‘Fake news’, antisemitism, brainwashing, propaganda which makes Goebbels look like an inept amateur and ‘The Protocols of the Elders of Zion’ an inept revisionist work, have conspired to relieve billions of people of their senses, their intelligence, of their otherwise rational thinking processes.
For these deluded billions, Israel is the evil empire – in contrast with Israel, every other nation on Earth, every leader, they are all paragons of virtue. In contrast with Israel, to these people, the Iranian and North Korean leadership are angelic.
The brains of our haters, they are sponges that soak up – and retain – every single molecule of ‘fake news’ in the air. I’m politically in the centre, I accept that there are grey areas, that, sometimes, it does take two to tango, but these people think that Arafat was the original Dalai Lama, that Israel operates concentration camps & gas chambers in the West Bank, that Israel has redefined Apartheid, that the IDF is modeled on the Gestapo & that the evil of Israel’s leaders since 1948 dwarfs that of Hitler & Stalin! When I walk up and down my ‘high street’, I meander through crowds of Jews, Muslim Arabs and Christian Arabs – I guess, if our haters were to see the scene, they’d accuse the Arabs of being Jews in fancy dress.
The picture of Israel painted by the verminous BDS et al, it is as far from reality, as far from the truth, as saying and believing that the Earth is flat or that we Jews kill Christian children and use their blood to make unleavened bread for our Passover. I’m sure that our haters don’t believe the former but that many believe the latter!
To accuse Israel of being an apartheid State is to downplay the real apartheid, the evil political/social/cultural system which operated in South Africa – it’s an insult to the millions who suffered in South Africa during the apartheid era.
To single out Israel as the worst offending nation vis a vis trampling on Human Rights is to downplay the suffering of, e.g. homosexuals in Islamic countries, Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, dissidents in Iran, protestors in China…it’s outright BIGOTRY!
Billions of people, when the word ‘Israel’ is mentioned, they suspend rational thinking, they ignore evidence, they believe anything and everything which demonises Israel.
Israel is the gift that keeps on giving, giving to antisemites for whom the only good Jew is a dead Jew. Those who want to hide their antisemitism can do so via the medium of Israel – of course, there are plenty of people who are quite happy to openly express their hatred of Jews and they don’t need the gift of Israel though, of course, they don’t pass up the opportunity to demonise it. Our haters hated us before 1947/8, they hate us now and they’d continue to hate us and hound us if we were to walk away from Israel…
Israel’s leaders have repeatedly offered to share this land with the Palestinians since 1947 – every offer, offers which have included the partition of Jerusalem and the capital of a future Palestinian State in East Jerusalem, every offer has been rejected. As was said of Yassir Arafat, “he never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity”.
When we have unilaterally withdrawn from land, we have paid a heavy price, e.g. when the late Ariel Sharon sent the IDF into Gaza to drag Jews from their homes so that the Palestinians could have it all, we got Hamas – when Israel unilaterally withdrew from South Lebanon, we got Hezbollah. If we were to unilaterally withdraw from the West Bank NOW, we’d have a terror state on our doorstep (which is why, I guess, so many people want us to clear out of the West Bank NOW!). Any future withdrawals must be on the basis of negotiations and agreements (and I don’t see it happening whilst Netanyahu and Abbas are PM of Israel and President of the PA respectively).
The movie, Alien, has the tagline,
“In space, no one can hear you scream”,
I think, in Middle East politics,
no one can hear the truth.
My dream is of a Two-State solution, a peaceful, prosperous future for Israelis and Palestinians, but it seems that most of the world wants a ‘juden-frei’ Middle East/world. The Palestinians hated Jews well before 1947 – check out, for example, the Hebron Massacre of 1929 – and Arab hatred of Jews goes beyond Israel’s borders, e.g. approximately 800,000 Jews were kicked out of Arab countries in the 20th Century.
Hitler, in ‘Mein Kampf’, coined the phrase “the big lie”, a lie so big that no one would believe that someone “could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously” – the Palestinian propaganda machine has the impudence to distort the truth very, very infamously (and it’s aided and abetted by the likes of the BDS – and, on the subject of the BDS, their being banned from entering Israel is exactly the kind of action that would be taken by the British Government if people who want to subvert, to destroy, the UK wanted to enter the country).
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it”, is a quote often attributed to Goebbels, some say Stalin came up with it and it has been attributed to other people. If you study the history of Nazi propaganda, it is obvious that the Palestinian leadership, the PA and Hamas, our Arab enemies and beyond, it’s obvious that they copy the methods. Considering the cosy relationship between the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Hitler during World War II, it’s no surprise that the ‘mechanics’ of the Nazi propaganda machine have been put into operation by the PA, Hamas, our Arab enemies.
However, naive though it may be, I’m not giving up hope of a better future, of peace between Israel and the Palestinians. As for seeing the back of antisemitism, I think that hoping for that is probably only for people who really do live in cloud cuckoo land.
