Movies and me

Movies have always been in my life. Music takes me back but movies from my childhood are also etched on my memory.  I remember crying at King Kong and having hysterics (crying, not laughing!!) at the horse’s head scene in The G-dfather. I was mesmerised by David Niven’s performance in A Matter Of Life And Death (mesmerised by the film generally) and shaking when watching Roger Corman’s cult ‘B’ movie,       ‘X’ – The Man with X-ray Eyes. Tears flowed, again, when I was a child, when I watched (and I remember it so well) Love Story…that final Scene with Ray Milland in the revolving doors at the hospital (and, of course, Ray Milland was in ‘X’) and there was The Last Snows Of Spring, what a tear jerker!

The above are just a few of the films I can watch over and over again…and my oldies…Witness For The Prosecution and, of course, Sabrina, both very different movies but both Billy Wilder masterpieces for which he received Oscar nominations but  –  a travesty  –  he didn’t win.  Naturally, the legendary Edith Head won the Best Costume Design Oscar for Sabrina. Sabrina, up a tree, so delicately poised, staring over at the Larrabee house: “It never rained on the night of a Larrabee party…the Larrabees wouldn’t have stood for it….”: what a movie!!!

I think I’ve painted a picture of someone who only watches old movies…I saw The Imitation Game the other day and loved it, Shawshank Redemption, The Artist, Philadelphia and Captain Phillips are right up there so stick with me, my movie tastes are wide and varied!

However, there are SO many films I have not seen, so many classics which I must see:

Citizen Kane

Gone With The Wind

Casablanca

The Wizard Of Oz

and in a different vein, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Groundhog Day…oh, and

The Usual Suspects…and I’ll give Blazing Saddles another chance…to name only a very few!

I know very little of the Western and the ‘war’ film genres: that must be put right!

I think I have just consigned myself to the bin labelled “movie reviewers with zero credibility” as there are so many films I haven’t seen yet.

I really look forward to catching up and to sharing my enjoyment with you.
