DEPRESSION: AN INVISIBLE, OFTEN FATAL, ILLNESS…

‘He’s the life and soul of the party,

the most socially-at-ease,

always the first to please,

the joker, the jester, the clown,

the man about town,

the one who is always up for a laugh,

the most popular member of staff,

the mostly talkative on the team,

his smile a blinding beam…

NEVER TAKE THAT SMILE AT FACE VALUE,

it’s all an act,

he’s wearing a mask.

You can’t see his brain,

you can’t see his mind,

you can’t see the toll

that depression is taking on his soul.

You see the front, the grin,

a man who, seemingly, can take it all on the chin,

there’s the beautiful girl,

his life’s, apparently, a social whirl,

you see the cash,

the flash

and the fast cars,

but, behind it all,

there are invisible scars,

there’s trauma, there’s anguish, there’s torment, there’s stress,

his life, behind the scenes, is an unholy mess,

he is drowning in a sea of distress,

an ocean of emotion:

if he were to lay his soul bare, you’d see it all there!

Don’t guess, don’t assume,

or his life could end far too soon.

I implore you, I sincerely do,

NEVER TAKE THAT SMILE AT FACE VALUE!

“Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.”*

No rhyme but more important is the line!’
